Training

Bromley BSAC takes its training very seriously, and we pride ourselves on the high standard of training provided to new students. All our trainers are qualified instructors and are all very experienced divers.

Using the regularly updated BSAC Training Programme, the instructors will progressively guide you through step by step instruction of "Ocean Diver" and "Sport Diver" qualifications, at your own pace. If you are interested in learning to dive, the following gives an overview of your training program.

Ocean Diver - This is BSAC's entry qualification which enables you to dive to 20 meters, with a diver of the same qualification or higher in the open water. The course is made up of a series of lectures and pool training sessions, resulting in your first open water dives. First open water dives are usually carried out either Leybourne Lakes, Horsea Island or at Easter, when the club goes to Brixham, this is an excellent site for diver training.

Sports Diver - A qualified diver who can dive up to 35 metres with a diver of the same qualification or higher. This qualification requires pool and theory sessions, with the emphasis of gaining rescue skills and extending your diving experience.

Having built up a foundation of open water skills, the training then concentrates on the responsibility of leading dives resulting in the "Dive Leader" grade.

Diver Leader - A competent, experienced diver who can lead ocean divers and sports divers on open water dives. Dive Leaders are allowed to dive to a depth of 50 metres. This qualification involves theory sessions and open water sessions.

Development of the diving skills and related skills such as boat handling, chartwork, navigation, first aid, lifesaver, oxygen administration etc eventually complete the dive training and result in the qualification of "Advanced Diver".

Advanced Diver - The Advanced Diver Award is the BSAC's highest diving grade within a Branch or Centre.
